I have an issue saying 14-2 wG is used for outlets. Lights ok but NEC requires that although 14 can carry 20 amp, it is fused at 15 amps. This means that 12-2( that can handle 25A but fused at 20A) is used for outlets. I am retired from electric work for 4 years now but I'm not aware of any change here.

I see on the box for the staples it says 14-2, 14-3, 12-2, and 12-3. So, does the 14-2 mean only two wires with no ground or do they just not say anything about the ground and it actually has a bare ground wire in it also? And the 14-3, is the cable with two coated wires and a bare ground or are all three wires coated, like for a three way switch wire? Thanks

Great little video. I do have a question or 2 however. 1: Was there a reason for not talking about the tab that connects the screws on the outlets that can be broken off turning the outlet into 2 separate outlets on 2 different switches? 2: Why was the speed connections on the backs of switches and outlets not talked about as well?

Good video. Where can I find a flat stove plug like the one in the video? is there a model or item number? My new stove sticks out due to my plug being the standard brown external kind & a flat plug like that would be a dream.

Hello, I have a switch in my living room that is wired directly to an outlet. When the switch is flipped up in the on position the outlet, both upper and lower sockets work. When in the down position, neither upper or lower sockets work. What I want to have happen is when the switch is in the upper position only one of the sockets work for a lamp and the other socket have a clock plugged in that isn't disturbed by the light switch. In other words one socket hot all the time and the other socket controlled by the light switch. Please help.

... tbh, I was just curious when I came here, but now I know the canadian standards of connecting lights, just need to find the rest of the course work so I don't kill myself when I play with 240v 40 amps in Australian standard plugs

Hi Sam, I am trying to replace a broken dimmer switch. When I opened the box, I saw it connected with only two black wires. However, the new switch that I purchased has three wires, one black and two red, besides the green/ground wire. So, how do I connect the wires to put the new switch on? By the way, the box holding the switch is metal and I believe is already grounded, so I guess I don't have to connect the green wire.

The video didn't answer my question at all. I have a light switch that controls the outlet. I want the switch to control half the outlet. In other words, when I have a light plugged in it will come on with flipping the switch and when the switch is off I can plug something into the other outlet and have it work with out flipping the switch on. How do I wire that?
