http://www.lifebeyondthesea.com - If you have a valid driver's license upon arrival to the Philippines and plan to drive here, or just want a local ID, here's a short primer on doing it in the Cebu/Mactan area. Sorry about the lower quality on this vid, it's from my older camera and I just recently re-discovered it on my hard-drive. ___ About Me.. After 49 years living in Southern California, USA, I decided to move to the Philippines despite never having been here before. I spent a year getting all the information I could online and in July, 2012, I took a leap of faith and transplanted myself first to Mactan and then to the beautiful island of Bohol here in the amazing Philippines. I am a single man taking an honest look at all that the islands here have to offer, one day at a time. I hope you find my LBTSea site informative, entertaining and hopefully.. both. :) Be sure to visit the Forum and Monthly Diary. hello sir..i think someone use your Identification card for Scam.
-
i have drivers license for car only what has to be done to get a license for driving a motor cycle??
-
You can just get a drivers license here in the Philippines, you don't need to pass a test, just queue up and get one. That is why the general standard of driving in the Philippine is dreadful, because nobody passes a test.

I drove around metro manila with my US license. Guess the MMDA guys didn't care or I was just lucky haha God Bless

Hi, Is there a mandatory insurance law in PI? for car, motorcycle, or even for a scooter? Thanks.
-
Hi do you if have a valid licence in USA or have to if intend to drive a car , in 1 week of a 1 month tourist visa be required to get a Philippines licence, if your home country one is valid ? So is it advisable to got to the LTO to get a test and pay to get a licence and I guess is a ID too than carry a passport , mostly the police don't bother westerners on road just Manilla to scrape money from you is what I found .

Have you encountered a government worker who asked you for "facilitation fees?" LOL.

Howdy Henry from the Great South West Bullhead City AZ. My Wife just got her dual citizenship yesterday at the Los Angeles Consulate. What a zoo L.A. has become !!Can I ask you a couple of questions ? First off do you actually lose your USA Drivers license when you get a Philippine drivers license ? And now since she has dual citizenship the Philippines will allow me to stay there for one year after I have to jump threw some hoops with paper work.. Have to take a physical , back round check. ETC. What kind of visa do you have staying in PI? Also wanted to know if you received any vaccinations ? The great thing about her being dual citizen is that she can now own property. Be safe on your bike !! I guess a 1200 Harley is out of the question. LOL !! Oh , also have you ever been to Palawan. If so what was your experience ?? Thanks , Adelina and Carl ((*_*))

I'm curious about the eye test. I have nerve damage in my right eye that means I'm legally blind in that eye (something like 20/200 vision). Here in the states (I've been licensed in MA, NM, and FL) the eye test requires only correctable vision in one eye. Do you know what the requirement is in the Philippines?

After you pass everything and pay all the fees, how long does it take before you get the license? I will be in Mactan for 6 days, is that enough time?
-
Henry, wow! You respond fast. Hope you are having a good weekend there, now that you are back in the Phils. (I think) Just a few questions about this license that you got. You were getting it to be ready to be mobile on your motorscooter. Is that same license you now have good for a car (if you were to buy or have already bought one) or a rental car? I am guessing that the same drivers license you got is valid for scooters and personally owned or rented vehicles. Does it last for a few years before it expires? Any annual fee to keep it current? And last one: Is this license you got back in August one that only residents and NOT just visitors can apply to obtain? Thank you. (Sorry to burden with all my comments. Up to this point I have just watched and listened but decided today to join with your other online compadres and make some "fan comments.") Oh one more: You mention this drivers license as a form of local ID. Say, maybe that's a good idea. As it might indeed be helpful when one might not want to have to show a US passport and reveal one's precise nationality/place of origin? Thank you for your help, pleasant tone, and friendly attitude.

I'm going to move there & open up a laminator installation & repair business... lol
-
Keep in touch, I'm in Cebu about every 4-6 weeks. :)
-
It's amazing how the people there take everything in stride, laminater broke there; no problem, laminator broke in the US, close the doors. I will be moving to LapuLapu at the end of the year, looking forward to getting back there and seeing all of my friends and new family there, was in Bohol last March, if I get to Bohol again I will try to look you up, I greatly enjoy your videos, take care and watch the aftershocks :-)

I trust the Triple-A knows their stuff and it's a valid way to go. For my 2-cents, having lived here.. the only time you'll be showing your license here is if there's an accident or infraction and, even if it's not your fault.. odds are the local police never even heard of Triple-A. Your existing license is good for the first 90 days. To be on safe side after that, I'd get the local license. Just my opinion.

Sean at Resort Rebel (he is origionally Canadian) focuses more on Business and talks lots about Bribes, Corruption, Lawyers, and doing Business in the Philippines.

That's funny. I've been to Bohol once. Maybe 15-16 yrs ago. Me and my buddies were island hopping. Using outrigger boats named "Pump-boats" or "bang-ka with motor". 1 hr. From Dumaguete City, Negros Island to Cebu Island then another 4-5 hrs. to Bohol Island. That's calm waters. I don't know the name of the resort. But it's cottages or huts were above mangroves. So you can just jump to the water. Maybe there out of business.

(So Far..) I haven't had to really deal with the corruption myself. When I took a case to the police one time, after the case was resolved the inspector sent a friend of mine a text wanting to know what his 'gratuity' was. I just ignored it. But my ex/gf gets out of tickets all the time offering up some money "for a snack" to the officer. Usually about $10 (400 Pesos) and off she goes.

Glad to be of help. Just have him find the local LTO office and follow the procedure, bring along passport and driver's license along with some pesos for the drug/eye tests.
