The goal of the Applied Communications Programs at Sharjah Women’s College (SWC) and other Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) is to develop a technically sound, theoretically proficient and culturally sensitive workforce for the growing media and design industry in the UAE. The programs offered by the Programat SWC give students the option to specialize in one of the three popular majors: Applied Media, Animation and Fashion Design. The Program provides an integrated learning environment - student-centered and project-based - where practical project work is contextualized and supported by 'theoretical work'. The students are exposed to 'learning by doing', facilitating training in the areas of Media Production and Design. Trained on state of art equipment and through a well-structured internship and work-based learning program, the graduates are capable of applying critical and creative approaches to the application of conceptual, production, and technical skills, to achieve the highest professional standards in a rapidly evolving media industry. Graduates develop the skills required to be life-long learners through exposure to a range of learning opportunities. The Division works towards the Emiratization of creative, production, management and technical roles in the media industry to meet the need for designers, media producers, and young business leaders - who can produce well considered, effective solutions which are truly representative in promoting the cultural and social values of the United Arab Emirates.
