69 LeMans, 2nd place porsche finished with practically no brakes left. What Porsche learned from that last runner-up role (they were successful at shorter races), allowed them to dominate LeMans for almost the next 30 years whenever they wanted to. Ferrari was done, and Ford stopped competing after they essentially killed off Ferrari in sports car racing with their four-peat 66-69 (Henry the deuce's revenge). When Porsche returned in 2014, it only took one year to return to victory.
