Dubai - HOW TO CATCH A CONNECTING FLIGHT | BASICS OF BACKPACKING #2

Watch Ep.1: "How To Book A Flight" here: https://youtu.be/gNf2wKspJQQ One of the biggest worries of novice travellers is how to catch a connecting flight. Once you check in at your original destination they will print you out your separate tickets for each connecting flight. You can also double check with the check in staff that your luggage will be going to your final destination. Always check before departing that you don’t need a transit visa for a connecting country Once you disembark the aircraft, simply follow the signs for connections/departure lounge. If you have already been given all your tickets for each leg of the journey, you do not need to re-check in at your connecting airports. Just simply walk straight to the departure lounge. There are normally signs pointing passengers either to arrivals/baggage claim or connecting flights/departure lounge. Some airports may make it tricky, asking passengers to go through here and there. IF in doubt, ask someone. If your original flight is delayed, meaning you will miss your connecting flight, you will be directed to get on an alternative flight at no extra cost to you. It is the airlines fault, so just go up to customer services and ask what the deal is if your airline has not told you. ------- SOME HELPFUL RELATED VIDEOS ------- 13 WAYS TO PASS TIME ON A LONG HAUL FLIGHT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VjSQXh0L7o HOW TO SURVIVE LONG HAUL FLIGHTS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXvR_0HXj-w COMPARING FLIGHT COMPARISON WEBSITES: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RltaxRlmzM --------------------- Important stuff --------------------- Support me on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/psychotraveller DON'T FORGET TO BECOME A LITTLE PSYCHO: http://goo.gl/GnWOIt --------------------- Social media is sexy --------------------- Facebook: http://goo.gl/K0u8pa Twitter: http://goo.gl/FsbWJR Pinterest: http://goo.gl/qgRD4v Instagram: http://goo.gl/abzups SnapChat: @PsychoTraveller My blog: http://goo.gl/5zP0dG Business email: psychotraveller22 at gmail dot com --------------------- What I Film My Videos With --------------------- GoPro Hero 4 Silver: http://goo.gl/9AE4Yu Sony A5100: http://goo.gl/Fo1DDY --------------------- Some Sexy Stuff Right Here!! --------------------- Get $30 off your first stay on Airbnb: https://www.airbnb.com.au/c/aford34?s=8 Get $10 off GoPro accessories with the code “PsychoTraveller” here: http://www.sandmarc.com/ (Above are affiliate codes/links which mean if you sign up/buy a product, at no extra cost to you, I make a little bit of money to help me maintain my channel and blog!)

I'm flying from the uk to Germany then heading to South Korea....on my own for the first time....I'm so nervous 😩
-
omg, thanks so much for making this video.
I don't fly often, but enough times to get the rhythm, but this is my first time for a connecting flight.
I think the nerve-wrecking part is the schedule being outside of your control. -
Thank you so much for that little bit of info I needed it:) travelling to Heathrow (UK) then Vancouver from Heathrow, so I have a connecting flight :) first time travelling alone :)
-
This was such great help, I'm going to live with my boyfriend in australia for a year and he left before me as he has a new job there, so I'm having to travel across the world on my own for the very first time!

Hi! I work for an airline check in and your advice is spot on!! One thing that sometimes catches people out -make sure you book (or your travel agent books) your flights all on one ticket. Otherwise there treated as separate journeys and you might not be able to check in all the way through. Also if your first flight is delayed the airline isn't obligated to rebook your connection. Also some countries have custom regulations were you have to pick up your bag at the first airport of that country. Love your videos BTW.

heyy lovely video... Can u pls tell me what's a good enough connection time (minimum) to keep in for travel.... I was looking to book a ticket from India to NZ thru Qantas however it has a layover at Australia but only for 1hr.... Don't know if that would be enough

ALSO- be super cautious when you are transferring through countries that require VISAS. ONCE, i was making a transfer in moscow & i was so deliriously tired, i didnt play close attention to the signs. i ended up going into the regular airport rather than following the signs that would take me through the "transfer" route. i came across a second passport control & thought it was quite weird. i got stopped bc i didnt have a VISA & was placed in one of those boxed rooms for "questioning" yes, my friends... by 4 different individuals who really did not speak english that well as i tried to explain in a white linen peasant shirt from greece that i was not in fact a criminal breaking the law, just a sleep deprived girl trying to get home. LOL. everything worked out eventually & they let me go and i also LUCKILY did not miss my connecting flight back home (which was just one of the things i was freaking out about in that box, trying to look calm as a cucumber with the video cameras over my head...)

also, another helpful thing to know: when booking a connecting flight, make sure there is enough time for you to the connecting destination for that connecting flight. once, i had a 1 hour layover in austria- but my plane coming from athens had a half hour delay= leaving me with 30 minutes to SPRINT through the airport. airport staff were surprisingly nice & took mercy on me by not having me put my bags through security as they saw me forging through lol. but, lesson learned...

Have you ever had a connecting flight where carry-on luggage weight is different on each airline? Never had a connecting flight before and was wondering would it be normal for them to check the hand luggage again.

Ur personality just earned a sub from me

This was a great and very informative video, it helps when I've never flown internationally before and I'm about to. Please do a going through customs video
-
You should add customs in this video. When I fly home via another airport I have to get my baggage at the first Canadian airport I stop at to have it through customs and then just drop it again for the next flight.

How do you find out if you need a transit visa and how do you get one? How do you get visas in general?

This video helps me a lot, speaking on the flight delays. If a flight is delayed and you missed your connecting flight but you got the next one from that same airline. What if you had another flight with another airline? After the connection flight. Would that be an issue? Like I have a flight with Qatar Airways from my home to Doha, then from Doha to Manila where I will take a final flight to another location in the Philippines but this last flight is Philippine Airlines. I wonder if the delay would end up costing me more or would they help me because it was out of my control.

I'm travelling from Manchester to Melbourne at the end of the month with a 80 minute connection time in Dubai. Do you think that is long enough to make the connection? I'm worried because I hear Dubai terminal 3 is huge and that 80 minutes might be pushing it! I booked it all as one package though. First flight with Qantas and second one with Emirates but all booked via Qantas
-
My worry is whether or not I will have to go through customs during a short connection.

I had an issue with China eastern last year. I had a flight from Sydney Australia to Beijing with a stop over in Shanghai and they lost my bag in Shanghai. Luckily I managed to get it back two days later in Beijing... It was so scary 🙈
-
i missed my connecting flight because my first flight was 5 hours late. so air india gave me a new ticket which was 10 hours late

I had a.. memorable experience with my first connecting flight. Last August I was heading back home to Canada from Colombia and had a 5 hour lay over at Mexico City. In my luggage i was bringing 6 small plastic bottles of Colombiana (Colombian pop/soda) home for friends and when transferring my bag was pulled aside to an alarm after they scanned it. My bag & I were put in a large empty room with a man behind a table and guards around the room. He goes through my bag and pulls one out asking what it is. I tell him it's pop and he states "No this is rum. You are attempting to smuggle narcotics into Mexico and you will be arrested and deported for this", and just as he finished saying that i looked over my shoulder to see the guards aiming shotguns and handguns directly at me (fingers on the triggers mind you) about a meter back. I stayed calm and after about half an hour of that someone decided to open one and realized it was just pop. I got let go and still had about 3+ hours till my flight departed. What an experience eh :p btw love your videos, I'm going backpacking come July for 8 months or so around the world and these tips are all really helpful :)
