On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (January 9th, 2017) John Campea, Kristian Harloff, Jeremy Jahns, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following: - Golden Globes Recap - New Justice League image reveals superhero line-up - Box Office Report - BUY OR SELL - Martin Scorsese scraps Frank Sinatra biopic - Keegan-Michael Key joins Shane Black's The Predator - J.A. Bayona wants to direct a Superman movie - DC Films as a studio - Christopher Nolan’s Star Wars The 2017 Golden Globe Awards happened last night and the big winner was La La Land. Writer/director Damien Chazelle‘s original musical scored a clean sweep, winning Best Picture Musical or Comedy, Best Director, Best Actress for Emma Stone and Best Actor for Ryan Gosling. The other big winners included Casey Affleck for Manchester by the Sea, Isabelle Hupert for Elle, Viola Davis for best supporting acting in Fences, Aaron Taylor-Johnson for best supporting acting in Nocturnal Animals, Zootopia for best animated movie and Moonlight for best picture, drama. Warner Bros. has released a new Justice League image showing off Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woma, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg, Ezra Miller’s the Flash and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. The image comes via an exclusive release from USA Today, which listed Justice League in their new “must-see films of 2017.” The movie opens in theatres on November 17th. It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report brought to you AMC theatres. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story barely took the No 1 spot at the box office over new release Hidden Figures. The first Star Wars Story took in $21.97 million dollars with Hidden Figures almost taking it from the Disney and Lucasfilm juggernaut with $21.8 million at No 2. Coming in at No 3 was Sing with $19.57 million. At No 4, the other weekend’s wide release, Underworld: Blood Wars, took in $13.1 million. And in the No 5 spot was La La Land, taking in $10 million as its domestic total climbs to $51.6 million. BUY OR SELL While doing the press rounds for Silence, Martin Scorsese revealed that his other long-gestating dream project, a biopic of Frank Sinatra, is no longer moving forward. Speaking with the Toronto Sun, the director seemed to suggest that the Sinatra estate and the family were not comfortable with him addressing certain issues in Sinatra’s life: “We can’t do it!…I think it is finally over. They (remaining members of the Sinatra clan) won’t agree to it. Open it up again and I’m there! Certain things are very difficult for a family, and I totally understand. But, if they expect me to be doing it, they can’t hold back certain things. The problem is that the man was so complex. Everybody is so complex—but Sinatra in particular.” THR reports that Keegan-Michael Key, best known for Comedy Central’s Key and Peele, is in final negotiations to join the cast of The Predator, Twentieth Century Fox’s reboot of the sci-fi action franchise directed by Shane Black. Boyd Holbrook is leading the cast of the movie in what is described as an ensemble cast that also includes Moonlight’s Trevante Rhodes and Olivia Munn. The movie is scheduled for release on February 9th, 2018. During a recent Reddit AMA, A Monster Calls and Jurassic World 2 director J.A. Bayona shared a story about his love for the original Superman movie and then, threw his name in for consideration to one day direct a movie about the Last Son of Krypton. Asked by a fan if the director had a dream film he’d like to work on, Bayona said: “The first memory I had was Christopher Reeve flying in the suit. Directing a Superman film would be great. I always wanted to be Superman. That's the film that made me want to become a director.” MAIL BAG LIVE TWITTER QUESTIONS Follow us on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/ColliderVideo Follow us on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/ColliderVideo Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/colliderdotcom Follow John: https://twitter.com/JohnCampea Follow Jeremy: https://twitter.com/JeremyJahns Follow Kristian: https://twitter.com/KristianHarloff Follow Ashley: https://twitter.com/AshleyMova Follow Wendy: https://twitter.com/WendyLeeSzany As the online source for movies, television, breaking news, incisive content, and imminent trends, Collider Videos is more than an essential destination. Ryan Gosling should've won...........for The Nice Guys. He was giving it his all in that movie.
-
You lead your title with Justice League for the clicks but spend less than half the time on it than you spent talking about the Golden Globes. Nice strats.
-
Collider is underrated compared to Screen Junkies
-
I'm an artist, so if other artists and people in my industry think I did a project that was one of the best, I think it would be serious. So even though it's not as formal as other award shows, why would it not matter? I'm usually with Campea, but I disagree with him about the Golden Globes.
-
this new DCEU is not doing it for me. Doesn't feel like the DC character. Each character are uninteresting, and defeats all the purpose that they stand for in their comic, and animated film.
-
JA Bayona wants to do a Superman movie? Boom. There's your director for Man of Steel 2. Make it happen WB.
-
DC should definitely break off into its own film company like Marvel. I'm not saying that DC should copy everything that Marvel does, but they would greatly benefit from this. It would at least be a step in the right direction. The reason the DC movies haven't been good is because studio execs at WB who butt in and interfere don't know anything about comics or what fans actually want. As long as they control the DC films, it'll be a while before we get a truly good DCEU film. A DC studios (or productions) run by comic writers and film producers would be a great idea. But it would have to be one person running it like Kevin Feigie does at Marvel. It should be an experienced film producer who also happens to be a comic book nerd. Hopefully this happens in the near future.

A Christopher Nolan Old Republic movie would be Bomb!

I dont know if they said it but they spoiled The newest Harry Potter movie... its okay though, they've done it before but the first time it was MY fault. This time it is THIERS! Unless ofcourse they said "Spoiler ALERT" and i just didnt get it.

Rumors are that Justice League sucks and I'm not surprised motherfuckers

I hate how Warner bros. is having a justice league movie with Zack Synder still directing after the disaster of Batman V Superman and the fact that we are missing key significant characters in the team. This isn't the justice league movie that I've always wanted and that bothers me. Where is Green Lantern, Marshan Manhunter, Green Arrow or even Superman God forbid! I know they've said he would be in part 2 but it makes no sense (spoiler alert) that they killed him in the last movie only to bring him back. Wtf!!! I Always thought they should do the death of superman when they plan on not using his character for a few years or longer. I just don't care enough about this movie let alone this poster. Best of luck to Ben Affleck in this DC universe. I adore him.
-
You people bitched about Doomsday's reveal in a trailer and now wanting Superman in the pics?!?!? Make up your damn minds! Save his comeback for the movie, hopefully not in a trailer.

For all the idiots saying Moonlight doesn't deserve Best Film (I'm looking at you, idiot with the black hat). Hit up Metacritic pls, highest rated film of the year, 4th highest rated film of all time with a rating of 99/100.
Suck a dick bitches 😊 -
I like Jeremy sort of & I'm not hating on the guy but please don't put him on a awards talk show, he seems lost on the matter.
