A police officer cannot apply to join the firearms unit without first finishing their two year probationary period, with a further two years in a core policing role.[2] Firearms unit is the most common name outside of the capital, while that of London's Metropolitan Police Service is called the Specialist Firearms Command, or CO19. Within the media it is sometimes compared to the SWAT units of the United States. The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) firearms unit is called CO19 (formerly SO19), but every force in the United Kingdom has firearms trained officers available should the need arise. Metropolitan and City of London Police operate with three officers per Armed Response Vehicle (ARV). Each unit comprises a driver, a navigator, and an observer who gathers information about the incident and liaises with other units. Other police forces carry two Authorised Firearms Officers instead of three. Armed Police carry a combination of weapons, ranging from German Heckler & Koch MP5 carbines, Heckler & Koch MSG901 Sniper rifles, Heckler & Koch Baton Guns (which fire baton rounds[disambiguation needed]) and Heckler & Koch G36Cs to a number of specialist weapons such as the Remington pump-action shotgun. Former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith recently unveiled new plans, for England and Wales, to train and arm response officers with Tasers, rather than just specialist firearms teams.[60][61][62] Several forces underwent a trial period with Tasers issued to members of response teams, and it was subsequently unveiled across the country. There are four general types of agency, the first mostly concerned with policing the general public and their activities and the rest concerned with policing of other, usually localised, matters: Territorial police forces, who carry out the majority of policing. These are police forces that cover a "police area" (a particular region) and have an independent Police Authority (England and Wales) or local authority or joint Police Board (Scotland). The Police Act 1996, the Police (Scotland) Act 1967 and the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000, prescribe a number of issues such as appointment of a Chief Constable, jurisdiction and responsibilities, for police forces in England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland respectively. Special police forces, which are national police forces that have a specific, non-regional jurisdiction, such as the British Transport Police. The Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 refers to these as "special police forces". Non-police law enforcement agencies, whose officers are not police constables, but still enforce laws. Miscellaneous police forces, mostly having their foundations in older legislation or Common Law. These have a responsibility to police specific local areas or activities, such as ports and parks and before the passing of recent legislation such as the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 were often referred to as "special police forces"; care must therefore be taken in interpreting historical use of that phrase. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearms_unit "CARJAM TV" "Carjam Car TV Show" "Television show about cars" "car jam radio" "car radio show" "car talk radio show" "carjam" ferrari "car talk" "RTE Radio 1" "James Bond Special" "RTE Car Show" "Car Radio Programme" "Radio show about cars" "bbc top gear" "car tv programme" "car television show" "great car ad" "funny commercials 2012" "Car Commercial 2012" "banned car commercials 2012" "funny commercials 2011" "Car Commercial 2011" "banned commercials 2011"f1 "formula one" "funny videos" "classic cars" evo "best car ads 2011" "funny car ads 2011" "funniest fail" "sexy car ad 2011" "road test" "road review" "car test" "road report" "driving test" hot sexy new nissan fast Porsche suv "celebrity car" maserati vw audi 4x4 estate lotus fiat "alfa romeo" subaru toyota ford impreza "high speed" "tractor" "rally car" crashes accidents

Shame about the crap camera work.

very weird humans

Harder to get in than sf , are you for real ? . You clearly don't know what your talking about
-
Just to put all the wondering to bed - these are SFO's from the Mets CO19 training for the eventuality of a water borne incident during the Olympics last year. The RHIB's are provided by the mets Thames Division and the 2 departments train regularly together. No SAS/SBS (although they have an input into the training and tactics). Just a very highly trained and self motivated police unit.
-
I doubt any of them are SFO's, maybe trained by SFO's or some of them are ex SF, definatly at least a few ex infantry definatly but if they were actual operatives then their faces would have been covered because even counter terrorism need to conceal their ID's. And anyone saying they are not the real deal, get into a fight with them and you will quickly see you are getting into a fight with some of the most highly skilled officers possibly in the world

I stumbled into some eco protest with my friend, who happened to be walking the same way along the side of the Thames as us when we needed to get to Waterloo train station, we stood out it was true, got followed by these geezers for a few minutes. :P Probably wondered what the hell we were doing amongst a load of hippies.
-
is that an targa 71 ?
-
Well then that would be the SBS, not the SAS. These are counter terrorist/close protection police who've been trained by Special Forces. In this particular situation it's possible that what you're looking at is a boat of SBS personnel with Police. Considering that there was an SAS reaction team on land near the Stadium. Britain's police firearm teams regularly win the International Police Marksman World Championships. I know they've won 3 years in a row, beating every other country.
-
nah brah...
-
They look like the SAS because they perform the same Counter Terrorist duties as the SAS under a Police directorate, and wear almost exactly the same protective clothing. They're trained by whichever SAS squadron is on CT duty at that time.
-
You call this over kill these men and women get shot at more regularly then you realize they are SFO's they are the most elite police in all Britain. If you think getting your firearms permit was hard just try being an SFO. They are officially harder to get into than the SAS they used to wear blue berretes but they are not aloud anymore because of how likely death is without an armored helmet. Show some respect.
-
these cops look like a bunch of weekend airsoft nerds who just got their new SAS kit from Amazon. Overkill and then some. These guys are dressed like the SAS but they don't have the Stugats to back it up.

Hate to see that when the blackball flag come up though while surfing
-
they look like fish in a bowl. A TURKEY SHOOT WITH THE AA 12 looks dangerous
-
These police are taught only to shoot as a last resort, they won't just start executing people because of their political ideology!
-
A military force in Britain that can replace the United Kingdom Bill of Rights 1689 restrictions that there should be no mobilised peacetime standing army in our country... loving it... do you think! Depends what side of the MP5 and legal perspective at the time of any given particular political ideology you are standing behind... and that could be any of us! The executive has craftily created a potential monster over the people under statute... but keep calm and carry on eh!
