Dubai Sulafa Tower fire Terrifying scenes as hundreds evacuated after blaze rips through luxury marina apartments.Massive blaze breaks out halfway up 75-storey luxury tower in Dubai, Sulafa Tower in the Marina district of Dubai. A residential 75 storey skyscraper in Dubai has caught fire, in the densely populated Marina district, sending plumes of smoke into the air. Pieces of the building's facade have been falling off, and tumbling below as the blaze engulfed the Sulafa Tower, on Wednesday. Chunks of burning debris landed on surrounding buildings, and neighbouring swimming pools with passers by, and workmen running for cover. The fire appears to have started on the 35th floor, and quickly spread to other floors and the sides of the building. Hundreds of residents are thought to have been evacuated from the building. Many who work in nearby offices watched in horror, as their homes went up in flames. Nora Maki, who lives across the street, says the flames spread like wildfire but that firefighters did an amazing job, of getting it under control. A resident of the apartment block told: 'My whole life is in the apartment. The fire started on the 35th floor, but we're not sure how yet. Most of the people who live there are standing outside watching the fire,' they said. 'Debris is floating down from the building, and is landing in neighbouring swimming pools,' they added. Eyewitness Kiera Doherty said on Twitter: 'Looks like the Dubai Markina Sulafa fire has affected more than 30 floors. Hope everyone has evacuated OK!' She shared a video which showed pieces of blackened debris falling from the building. The original point of the blaze is now under control, another fire has broken out and is climbing from the middle part of the building. There were no immediate reports of injuries, and eight fire engines are at the scene. The nearby Westin Dubai hotel said, displaced Sulafa Tower residents can take shelter inside its ballroom. 'To anyone affected by the tower fire, we are opening up The Westin ballroom, should you need temporary shelter and refreshments,' the hotel tweeted. The tower is the 127th tallest building in the world, and 23rd tallest in Dubai.
