A Miley Cyrus lookalike bears such a striking resemblance to the singer that she gets mobbed by fans in the street wanting a photo with their idol. Security guards in nightclubs have even had to protect Mardee Shackleford, 21, from being crushed by hordes of admirers who think she's really Miley. 'Several times I have been sitting in traffic and people have slid open the back door of their car and kids will start yelling, "Miley",' she reveals. 'Sometimes it feels like I am actually famous or a celebrity, just on a really small scale. It's been really fun for me.' Mardee, who lives in California, first started being compared to the former Disney star when she was 14 years old. Her boyfriend at the time told her she looked a lot like Miley's famous alter ego Hannah Montana. But when she got a pixie cut, aged 17, customers at the restaurant where she worked as a waitress started pointing out the striking resemblance. 'Almost every table that I waited on, someone would say I looked like her,' she says. 'I couldn't go anywhere without hearing it.' At first Mardee wasn't a fan of Miley's music, but after she released her album Bangerz in 2013 she started warming to the star. For her 20th birthday, she decided to get tickets for one of her concerts. She ended up being swamped by fans the whole night and even ran into Miley's dad, the country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. He was so struck by Mardee that he pulled her out of the crowd and insisted on them getting a photo together. Afterwards Mardee's sister persuaded her to start an Instagram account. She started posting photos once a week to show off her best Miley looks. But despite posing in skimpy outfits and imitating her famous tongue out pose, Mardee insists that she doesn't go out of her way to look like the singer 'Though I post photos with my tongue out, that's a pose I have been doing all my life and I am comfortable with,' she says. She also reveals that she's only copied the singers' fashion choices a handful of times. 'Other than those occasions we just seem to end up liking the same stuff,' she explains. 'That doesn't really surprise me, because we are pretty much the same age and live in the same state, so I think our styles are bound to be similar. 'I am very into vintage clothing, and so I love a lot of the clothing that she wears.' As Miley's profile has grown over the past few years, so has Mardee's and she's even won a $2,500 prize at a lookalike contest in Chicago. Despite not initially being a Miley fan, Mardee now has a lot of respect for her. 'I like that she is a very strong advocate for girl power,' she says. The aspiring model and fashion designer has attended concerts in LA and Chicago but has yet to meet her famous doppleganger She's planning to book front row tickets for the next Miley concert in the hope that she's spotted by the We Can't Stop singer. For now though, she's enjoying the attention from fans on social media. 'The response has been really surprising to me,' she says. 'I am glad I do it because I have really bonded well with a lot of people. 'It seems like no matter what I post, whether it's Miley-related or not, I will always get a comment from someone saying I look like her.'
