National Geographic Documentary Megastructures - The World (archipelago) | Palm Islands - BBC Documentary History The World (archipelago) https://goo.gl/VNbC7E The World or The World Islands (Arabic: جزر العالم; Juzur al-Ālam) is an artificial archipelago of various small islands constructed in the rough shape of a world map, located in the waters of the Persian Gulf, 4.0 kilometres (2.5 mi) off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.[1] The World islands are composed mainly of sand dredged from Dubai's shallow coastal waters, and are one of several artificial island developments in Dubai.[1] The World's developer is Nakheel Properties, and the project was originally conceived by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. Construction of the 300 islands began in 2003, only to halt due to the 2008 financial crisis. Though 60 percent of the islands had been sold off to private contractors back in 2008, development on most of these islands has failed to initiate. As of late 2013, only two of the islands had been developed. In January, 2014, Kleindienst Group announced the launch of "The Heart of Europe" project;by February, 2014, one of Kleindienst Group's brands - JK Properties' announced in their monthly newsletter that the project was "well underway".The first of these series of islands will be Europe, Sweden and Germany with development led by Kleindienst Group, the Developer for The Heart of Europe project. The floating Sea horse villas at St. Petersburg Island are scheduled to be delivered in Dec 2016 and the booking starts at 20%. As of July 2012, the Lebanon Island was developed and was 'the only island that has so far been developed commercially, is used for private corporate events and public parties. Palm Islands https://goo.gl/eJaei3 Palm Islands are three artificial islands, Palm Jumeirah, Deira Island and Palm Jebel Ali, on the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. As of November 2014, only Palm Jumeirah has been completed. This island takes the form of a palm tree, topped by a crescent. After completion, Palm Jebel Ali will take a similar shape; each island will be host to a large number of residential, leisure and entertainment centers and will add a total of 520 kilometers of non-public beaches to the city of Dubai. The creation of the Palm Islands began in June 2001. Shortly after, the Palm Islands was announced and reclamation work began. This island was meant to be a bigger island, but it was later downsized. An island was planned and construction started, but this project was later remodelled and renamed to The Palm Islands.

Irish investor/businessman John O'Dolan, who purchased the "Ireland" island, committed suicide in February 2009. He realized what sane person would want to go to Ireland in Dubai when they could come to the real country and have a real experience with real people with a real culture instead of this superficial BS

"A foolish man, who built his house on the sand".
Rather ironic when you consider all the off shore islands will be under water due to the very oil they pump out of the ground. -

Great. Advertise this shit hole. Built by slaves and serfs for billionaire scumbags. This place is not worth pissing on. The muslims look down on foreign tourists for visiting the dens of inequity that THEY build. They lure poor peoples with the promise of decent wages and living conditions. What they provide are serf wages and squalor. These people are bottom feeders propped by the accidental discovery of oil. I hope it runs out soon and they revert back to being sheep and goat f*ckers.

Someone tell me where the hell is the "Arab Gulf"?
I searched everywhere on the map couldn't find any place by this name.
I was under the impression that "National Geograghy" is expert at least in using proper naming of the places around the world. -
