On the 4th of May 2015 a runway incursion took place at Birmingham International Airport in Birmingham, United Kingdom. EGBB/BHX. As an Emirates Boeing 777-300ER. Reg A6-EBA operating flight EK39 from Dubai approached the Runway a Fairchild Metroliner III. Registration EC-JIP. Operated by Flightline entered the runway. Due to another aircraft, it did not depart in time. This caused the 777 to go around. While the Metro III was still on the runway. The 773 was at less than 500 feet. Thanks for watching. Controllers do this all the time they clear the arriving aircraft to land with warning. this how they say it. Emmirates clear to land departing traffic prior to your arrival. This warns the pilot on final to prepare for a go around. The tower usually tell the aircraft taking to line up and wait when a realease clearance had been issued by departure ATC and the tower usually have just 10 minutes to let it takeoff otherwise they will need to get another release clearance from departure.

I do not think the Metroliner needed wake turbulence separation in this case. The delay looked like it could have just been for spacing in general. Also....if all ATC instructions were followed,.this would not be an actual runway incursion. If the metroliner would have been issued a turn and not delayed on the runway this would have worked perfectly from ATC's end. Sometimes the sequence does not work as planned.

Did the AAIB issue a report on this "incident"?

Just a suggestion, please do not not cover the screen with large letters as it is quite annoying and difficult to watch. Sorry thumbs down.

Awesome catch and great explanation. Thanks so much 👍😁

Departing aircraft should not be queued on a runway while that runway is also being used for arrivals.

Good morningGreat vídeo, it is very well done and explains very well what happened that could have been a great tragedy.

Absolutely an ATC error. They handled the situation all wrong.Your video was revealing the problem in every detail. These things shouldn't happen.Great footage.

Very nice! That explained it well. When that guy was talking about the pilot facing 20K fines, which pilot did he mean?
-
Liked a lot! Great video of the entire event, and good cations explaining everything. Interesting to see the 777 turn away from the Metroliner's departure path. Very nicely done!
