Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, is the latest celebrity to enter the UAE's real estate market with a property development off Ras Al Khaimah. Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard will be an Dh8-billion project on Dana Island off Ras Al Khaimah coast which, he said, "will extend his home to others". His entry follows that of a number of international celebrities — David Beckham, Michael Schumacher, Donald and Ivana Trump, among others — adding flavours to the UAE's real estate market that, according to analysts, is heading towards a correction. However, unlike others where celebrities who lent their names for a royalty, Khan said he is involved in the project and would like to have a home in it. Emotional touch "I lost my father at 15 and mother at 25 — lived like a homeless for a long time," Khan told the media, explaining his passion for his home. "I have a strange fetish for home — it's close to my heart. Bit by bit, I have built my home where the future of my children lies. While I have done so much for my home, why I can't I extend this to others?" He said it will be a business venture and a profitable one. Scheduled for completion in 2012, Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard will have modern residences including specially designed studios, and one- and two-bedroom apartments and townhouses. The work on the master plan by an international team of designers and architects will start shortly. Luxury amenties To be developed by the TSA Group, Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard will become part of the larger, high-quality living environment of Dana Island, which will eventually house several world-class hotels, a shopping centre and commercial complexes spread across 6.3 million square metres. Explaining why he ventured into the real estate business, the actor said, "At 42, I have come out of the [stage of] romance. I've produced kids. I'm a father now and I'm thinking like one. It's time to think of their future, safety and security." "We'll build houses for people. They will have to make it their home with the spaces and amenities that we will provide. I've brainstormed with the designers and I'm confident that we'll build some nice homes." The project is being designed by Los Angeles-based designer Tony Ashai of Ashai Design Corporation. "The entry to the project will be through a glass-gate followed by a boulevard with retail outlets and residential complexes," Tony Ashai said. "In between, there will be a boardwalk, a public square on the beach with open movie theatres, where people could watch movies through bluetooth." At the centre of the project, the boulevard will have twin towers, where each floor will have one apartment with a single lift taking residents to their homes. The project is still in the conceptual stage, with detailed designs and costing yet to be done.
