The train entered the station, jumped the bumper at the end of the track and went over the platform onto the escalator and stairs. No one was on the escalator or stairs when the derailment occurred. Chicago Transit Authority spokesman Brian Steele told the Chicago Tribune the train was "apparently traveling at a higher rate of speed than a train would be" when entering a station normally. He said the conductor would be tested for drugs and alcohol, which is standard procedure after an accident. Injured passengers were taken to four area hospitals, with most passengers in fair to serious condition but none of the injuries considered life threatening. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were looking into the derailment, and service at the O'Hare station was suspended. The Chicago Transit Authority will provide buses between the airport and Rosemont station, meaning public transit trips to and from one of the country's busiest airports will take up to 10 minutes longer than normal, Steele said. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Good thing they got bumpers there now isn't it? Jesus do they even test these things out or just put them there as decoration!.
-
Conductors don't operate Subways they open and close the doors. The Motorman operates the train.
-
yea she was black, her pic was in the Sun Times paper--looked like a butch too !! well she can stay her sleeping ass at home with her lady and stay in bed--thats why she got caught sleeping on the job TWICE before as the Sun Times stated.
-
Turns out the person at the controls didn't "doze off", she was asleep when the train arrived at the terminal. It took the CTA about a week to fire her.
-
Conductor? don't you mean Engineer?
-
Am i the only one that noticed that the train is supposed to be feet away from the escalator naturally? I really don't get why a train would be made to park directly in the middle of the platform right in front of an escalator. That is dumb. That is setting someone up for injury regardless.

This was barely a disaster. A disaster would have deaths, and not just injuries.
