At some point you have to draw the line for safety when it comes to motor sports. Its inherently dangerous and the drivers know this yet they race knowing the risks. The moment a tragic accident happens such as this we have waves of critics calling for this that and the other to make it "safer". Lets call it what it is an accident and look forward to the next race.

It's just a regular tow hook thingie you find on pretty much every European cars.

Keep the cockpits open. If you are going to close them why not just make autonomous cars race?

If that's a production prototype (and not a test mule), I'm betting on it being the rumored BMW M-developed 7-Series sedan.

I like the analysis of the middle-eastern markets taste for American cars. I wonder if looking at Kuwaiti streets, for instance, could be a way of looking an alternative US market were the oil crises never happened! By the way, I'm not sure more stability in the Middle East would necessarily increase U.S. Exports there. The countries that buy big American cars are the rich oil producers, and that are already stable. The unstable countries are not rich enough to shop for Impalas and Chargers anytime soon, even if they were peaceful. The only exception to this could be Iran... And finally, the ME was also a big market for Australian cars! A pity that will come to an end really soon.

But John, Dongfeng already has a big stake on PSA. That is the most likely reason for Faurecia joining with DFM. I'm curious, though. How much of the interior of a car built in the U.S. Or Europe, comes from China?

I really want to like this news channel for cars...the info is good, but the delivery is IMO terrible. exaggerated, over- inflected voice tone make these almost un-watchable.

I've thought open cockpit cars should be closed off since I saw Massa get hit in Hungary (?) several years ago. A piece fell off the car ahead hit him in the head and he hasn't been the same since.

The screw in hook is for pulling the car out of a ditch. The pipes may be a sign that it s a Diesel test mule.

That BMW looks like a "test Mule..."
