It has a 1.5 mile long rapid train that transport the passengers to their nearest destination inside the airport. Hamad International Airport was opened on April 30,2014 to cater to an estimated 50 million passengers a year, three times larger than the old Doha International Airport. Delay in the opening of the airport which had an initial soft launch scheduled on April 2,2013, spawned many issues including safety worthiness of the airport and a $600M lawsuit from Qatar's national flag carrier, Qatar Airways, against the joint venture contractor Lindner Depa Interiors for delaying the opening of the airport for the company's failure to complete its lounges on time. Qatar Airways also blamed the general contractor, Bechtel, for its failure to meet the regulatory requirements. Full operations of the airport were put in placed by the end of May 2014. The new airport will have an expansion plan after it was announced in September 2015. It will have an extension of the check-in area, an expansion of concourses D and E into a 1.3 km long concourse, a new passenger amenity area in the D/E complex with lounges, shops and restaurants, and a connection to the Doha Metro, now, having a full blast on its construction operation. It is the second largest airport in the Middle East after the Dubai International Airport. Street View Special Collects is a feature of Google Maps that lets users explore places around the world such as landmarks, natural wonders, and culturally and historically significant sites. Today, anyone with an internet connection can explore the airport’s facilities within its 600,000 square meter terminal including Qatar Duty Free, its premium shopping emporium, the iconic Lamp Bear and various other art installations in the airport and all services offered within its five concourses.
