We wanted to stop in Groome, Texas because Peg had visited there in 1956 on a family trip and remembered the grain elevators and motel, etc. WELL, it was very foggy and as we turned in I saw a sign for "CROSS" and the installation rose out of the mist like a dream - a ten story death and torture device surrounded by a circle of statues depicting one sadistic scene after another ending with hands holding fetuses.
